Mechanical milling of biomass as a pretreatment to make it readily saccharifying requires high energy input. It has been found that carrying out treatment with anhydrous ammonia before mechanical milling significantly reduces the energy required for milling, resulting in a more economical pretreatment method for commercial applications. |
