titleOfInvention | Compositions and methods for preparing nano-formulations using focused acoustics and systems for nano-delivery |
abstract | Focused sonication is used to prepare formulation particles ranging from about 10 nm to about 50 microns (eg, 1 micron to 20 microns), or from about 10 nm to about 400 nm (eg, 10 nm to 100 nm). Formulations (eg, nano-formulations) can include suspensions (eg, nanosuspensions), emulsions (eg, nanoemulsions), or another small particle system. The formulation can be used as a delivery system for therapeutic agents. The formulation can also include a suspension of micron or submicron sized particles dispersed in a solvent. Alternatively, the formulation can include a bioactive agent and a carrier compound such as a surfactant that encapsulates the bioactive agent (eg, liposomes / micelles containing pharmaceuticals, polynucleotides, etc.). In some cases, the polydispersity index of the particle size distribution in the formulation is less than 0.1. The formulation can be suitably prepared using focused acoustic energy that reduces the average particle size of the mixture. Alternatively, suitable formulations can be prepared using focused sound in a manner that does not reduce the average particle size of the mixture. [Selection] Figure 1 |
