titleOfInvention | Radiopaque, non-biodegradable, water-insoluble, poly (vinyl alcohol) iodinated benzyl ether, process for its preparation, injectable embolic composition containing it, and process for its use |
abstract | The present invention comprises a radiopaque, non-biodegradable, characterized in that it comprises a poly (vinyl alcohol) having covalently grafted iodinated benzyl groups containing 1 to 4 iodine atoms per benzyl group Water-insoluble, poly (vinyl alcohol) iodinated benzyl ether (iodo-benzyl ether-PVA), 0-100% hydrolyzed poly (vinyl alcohol) with 1 to 4 iodine atoms per benzyl group The method for producing iodo-benzyl ether-PVA according to any one of claims 1 to 7, which comprises a step of reacting with an iodinated benzyl derivative containing benzene in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of a base under anhydrous conditions. . The iodo-benzyl ether-PVA is particularly useful as an embolic agent in an injectable embolic composition. The invention also relates to an injectable embolic composition comprising the iodo-benzyl ether-PVA and capable of forming aggregates by contact with body fluids by precipitation of the iodo-benzyl ether-PVA. The present invention is particularly useful for forming aggregates in blood vessels in vivo or in tumors. The present invention further relates to a coating composition comprising the above iodo-benzyl ether-PVA and capable of forming a radiopaque coating on a medical device. The invention further relates to particles formed from the above iodo-benzyl ether-PVA. |
