titleOfInvention Method for synthesizing and isolating N- (bromoacetyl) -3,3-dinitroazetidine and composition containing the same
abstract A method for the synthesis and isolation of N- (bromoacetyl) -3,3-dinitroazetidine (ABDNAZ), wherein DNAZ is reacted with bromoacetyl bromide and boron trifluoride etherate in a solvent to form salts of ABDNAZ and DNAZ By producing a reaction mixture comprising: Water and an additional amount of solvent are added to the mixture to form an organic phase containing ABDNAZ and an aqueous phase containing a salt of DNAZ. The organic and aqueous phases are separated to produce an ABDNAZ / solvent solution containing ABDNAZ and an aqueous phase containing a salt of DNAZ. Non-solvent is added to the ABDNAZ / solvent solution to produce an ABDNAZ / solvent / non-solvent mixture. ABDNAZ is then recovered. Also disclosed are compositions comprising ABDNAZ.
