abstract A method for photoinitiated conversion of a convertible reactive substrate is disclosed. The method includes an initial step in which the protected ketone photoinitiator species present in the substrate is deprotected to form the corresponding ketone photoinitiator species that is used in subsequent photoinitiation reactions of the method. The ketone group of the photoinitiator is protected with an unsubstituted 1,3 dioxolane group. Along with the protected ketone photoinitiator itself is also disclosed a composition that can be used in this method, the use of a protected ketone photoinitiator in a photoinitiated reaction.
