abstract | A method is provided for isolating small RNA from a sample, wherein the method is selected from the group consisting of a) at least one alcohol, b) trichloroacetate ion, perchlorate ion, and trifluoroacetate ion. At least one chaotropic salt comprising a chaotropic anion, and c) binding RNA to silica particles by contacting with silica particles and separating the bound RNA from the remaining sample. The invention also provides compositions and kits for effectively isolating small RNA molecules from samples, particularly biological samples (eg, blood, blood products, tissues and body fluids). |
