titleOfInvention Medical heating device and method with self-regulating electrical heating elements
abstract Small portable medical heating devices utilize an electric heater formed from a self-controlling conductive material, such as a conductive polymer or ceramic. The material has an electrical resistance that varies gradually with temperature so that heat production from the current through the material causes the resistance to fluctuate. The insulating jacket includes a self-control heater element that can be coupled to a power source. In one embodiment, the probe that is thermally coupled to the heater extends outward from the jacket. In another embodiment, the self-controlling conductive material is in series with one of the electrode pairs (or three electrodes) adapted to deliver radio frequency energy to the tissue.
