abstract | The present invention is a novel process for preparing 4-nitro-oxy-methyl-benzoic acid, which comprises: a) reacting 4-chloromethyl-benzoic acid with acetonitrile in the presence of a catalytic acid in acetonitrile at reflux temperature. Cooling and adding a polar aprotic solvent; b) filtering the silver salt followed by washing with a polar aprotic solvent; c) adding water and b) A process comprising precipitating 4-nitro-oxy-methyl-benzoic acid from the filtrate obtained in step d) drying 4-nitro-oxy-methyl-benzoic acid. |
