An apparatus for monitoring EMG signals of a patient's laryngeal muscle includes an endotracheal tube having an outer surface and a first location configured to be positioned on the patient's vocal fold. A first electrode is formed on the outer surface of the endotracheal tube substantially below the first location. A second electrode is formed on the outer surface of the endotracheal tube substantially above the first location. The first electrode and the second electrode are configured to receive an EMG signal from the pharyngeal muscle when the endotracheal tube is placed in the patient's trachea. [Selection] Figure 35B |
