abstract | The present invention relates to data retrieval and translation. In particular, the present invention relates to retrieving documents from the Internet or a database. Furthermore, the present invention also relates to translating words in a document, web page, image or sound from one language to another. A computer-implemented method comprising at least one computer according to the present invention includes receiving a search query that includes at least one search term, and deriving at least one synonym for the at least one search term. Expanding the received search query with at least one synonym; searching for at least one document using the expanded search query; and retrieving a search result obtained by the expanded query. And ranking the search results obtained by expanding the synonyms based on a context in which at least one search word appears.
