abstract |
An apparatus and method for improving the stack structure of an electrochemical battery. A stacked battery (20) has at least two battery segments (2) formed of stacked layers. Each battery segment (2) includes a first electrode unit having a first active material electrode, a second electrode unit having a second active material electrode, and an electrolyte layer (10) between the active material electrodes. . One or more gaskets (60) may be included in each battery segment (2) to seal the electrolyte (10) within the battery segment. In one embodiment, the first electrode unit comprises a first electrode layer having a first side and a second side, and a first active material on the first side of the first electrode layer.
