Compositions and methods for the diagnosis and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are provided. The method is based on the identification of proteins (including agonist and antagonist antibodies) that are obtained as a result of stimulating the immune response of a mammal and that are autoimmune. The resulting PRO polypeptides, agonists and antagonists thereof are also useful for preparing medicaments and agents for the treatment of SLE. [Selection figure] None |
