abstract | A method for producing methacrylic acid with high productivity over a long period of time is provided. A method for producing methacrylic acid by oxidizing methacrolein with oxygen in a continuous manner, comprising a mixed gas containing methacrolein, isobutylene and oxygen and having an isobutylene content of 300 to 3000 ppm by volume. And then starting the oxidation so that the methacrolein conversion rate at the reactor outlet is at least 85%, then methacrolein conversion rate (X2) at the reactor outlet and methacrolein at the reactor outlet at the start of the oxidation.
