abstract Disclosed is a gel electrolyte for an electrochemical capacitor that has excellent ionic liquid retention capability, high strength, and can be made into a thin film. The electrolyte for an electrochemical capacitor according to the present invention comprises bacterial cellulose, which is an assembly of fine fibers called microfibrils, produced by bacteria belonging to the genus Acetobacter and the like, and ionic liquid, and the ionic liquid is 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate is particularly preferred.
