abstract | Disclosed are a liquid crystal alignment film having high liquid crystal alignment and stably providing a high pretilt angle of around 45 degrees, a method for producing the alignment film, and a liquid crystal element having the alignment film. A polyimide photo-alignment film obtained by exposing a coating film obtained by subjecting a polyamic acid having photo-alignment ability to an amine treatment and then baking at a temperature equal to or higher than the imidization temperature of the polyamic acid. A polyimide photo-alignment film that gives a pretilt angle of 3 degrees to 70 degrees and has a film orientation index (Δ) expressed by the following formula of 0.27 or more.
