abstract | A polarizing element that exhibits excellent characteristics with respect to light in a wide wavelength band is provided. A polarizing element 1 according to the present invention includes a glass substrate 2 (base material), a first electrode 3 (first conductor), a second electrode 4 (second conductor), and a polarizing layer. 5 is provided. When the plurality of nanorods 7 (needle-like particles) are viewed from the normal direction of one surface of the glass substrate 2, the extension of the first electrode 3 and the second electrode 4 in the dielectric material 6 of the polarizing layer 5. A plurality of nanorods 7 in a region overlapping with the first electrode 3 or a region overlapping with the second electrode 4 when viewed from the normal direction of one surface of the glass substrate 2 are aligned along a direction substantially perpendicular to the current direction.
