abstract |
Provided are a model and a method for inhibiting angiogenesis. The present invention relates to the formation of neovasculature while maintaining the viability of the underlying tissue by subjecting a subject whose angiogenesis is to be inhibited to a sublethal dose of photodynamic therapy. A method of inhibiting is provided. The present invention also provides a model for evaluating sublethal dose PDT protocols to inhibit angiogenesis in specific target tissues. The present invention provides a method of treatment based on the discovery that PDT inhibits the formation of neovascular structures under conditions in which the viability of the underlying tissue is maintained.
