abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat alkaline battery excellent in heavy load discharge characteristics, light load discharge characteristics and productivity, and a manufacturing method thereof. The flat alkaline battery of the present invention comprises a positive electrode made of a positive electrode mixture, a negative electrode containing zinc particles or zinc alloy particles, a separator and an alkaline electrolyte, an outer can, a sealing plate, and a resin gasket. The positive electrode mixture contains a composite containing manganese dioxide, graphite and an alkali metal hydroxide, and a silver-nickel composite oxide, and contains graphite. The amount is 5 to 10% by mass. The flat alkaline battery of the present invention is formed by pressing a mixture of manganese dioxide, graphite and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide into a sheet, and then pulverizing the sheet to form the composite. The composite and the silver-nickel composite oxide can be mixed to produce a positive electrode mixture, which can be produced by the production method of the present invention including the step of forming this positive electrode mixture.
