A metal-supported carbon material having a high hydrogen storage capacity and capable of reversibly storing and releasing hydrogen is provided. A metal-supported carbon material obtained by introducing a metal complex into a carbon material having pores, wherein the metal complex is based on copper (Cu) or a group 8-10 metal M as a coordination center. A ligand selected from the group consisting of triphenylphosphine, triphenylamine, pyridine, bipyridine and phenanthroline, which may have a substituent.
