PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove excess ammonia by oxidation from flue gas subjected to selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxide (NOx) by injection of ammonia (NH 3 ). A metal oxide, such as a precious metal on titania and a vanadia secondary catalyst, is incorporated to oxidize both ammonia and carbon monoxide (CO) while maintaining a sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ) level.
