abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an austempered spheroidal graphite cast iron article. The method includes providing a melt of a ductile iron alloy composition. The method also includes pouring molten metal into the mold to form a cast product. The method further includes cooling the casting to austempering temperature by circulating coolant through the mold, where cooling comprises solidifying the melt and forming a ductile iron article. Further, the method includes heating the casting to maintain the austempering temperature for a time sufficient to form an austempered spheroidal graphite cast iron article comprising a microstructure comprising ausferrite.
