As a result, it is possible to provide a PVA capable of efficiently producing hydrolyzable cellulose. A polyvinyl alcohol polymer used for the production of hydrolyzable cellulose using cellulosic biomass as a raw material, the polyvinyl alcohol polymer having a monomer unit represented by the formula (1).
