abstract | An evaluation method capable of easily evaluating the linearity or pitch accuracy of a region of a retardation film having a pattern. In an evaluation system including a light source, a reference member, a retardation film, a detachable polarizing filter, and a photodetector in this order, the reference member includes a polarizer, and the light-transmitting region extends in one reference direction. The retardation film has a first retardation film having a uniform retardation in the plane, and a plurality of anisotropic regions and isotropic regions extending in one direction alternately in the plane. A plurality of points in the reference direction of the reference member are observed without attaching a polarizing filter, and a reference line parallel to the reference direction is set in the same way at the plurality of points.
