Generally linear effervescent oral fentanyl dosage forms and methods of administration |
abstract |
Fentanyl-containing dosage forms and methods of use thereof are provided. About 100 μg to about 800 μg of fentanyl, or the same amount thereof, calculated as fentanyl free base, an effervescent material in an amount from about 5% to about 85% by weight of the dosage form, and about An effervescent tablet comprising a pH adjusting agent in an amount of 0.5 wt% to about 25 wt% and starch glycolate in an amount of about 0.25 wt% to about 20 wt% of the dosage form. This formulation is suitable for the above-mentioned fentanyl delivery via the oral mucosa of patients by intradental or sublingual administration, and is advantageous in terms of cost and side effects because it requires substantially less fentanyl than known oral formulations. .
