abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device and an optical film which have improved yellowness from oblique and lateral directions when displaying a halftone. A backlight, and at least a polarizer and a liquid crystal cell in this order from the backlight side, and a high refractive index layer and a low refractive index layer from the backlight side between the backlight and the polarizer. An optical film in which there is an interface having a refractive index difference arranged in the order of, and no low refractive index layer is present between the high refractive index layer and the backlight as compared with the high refractive index layer. The optical film thickness (wavelength 550 nm) of the high refractive index layer is 530 to 580 nm, and the optical film thickness (wavelength 550 nm) of the low refractive index layer is 100 to 220 nm.
