abstract An abnormality of a release operation of an engagement device in response to a release command for the engagement device is detected. The present invention relates to a differential gear device having an input member drivingly connected to an engine, an output member drivingly connected to a wheel, a first rotating electrical machine, a second rotating electrical machine, and three rotating elements. A drive device for a hybrid vehicle comprising: a control device; and an engagement device capable of releasing the drive connection between any one of the input member, the output member, and the first rotating electrical machine and the rotating element of the differential gear device. And the control device commands the release of the engagement device when the engagement device is in the engaged state and the first rotating electrical machine, the second rotating electrical machine, and the engine are stopped. Later, a command for generating the rotational torque of the first rotating electrical machine is issued, and the engagement device is released based on the change state of the rotational state of the first rotating electrical machine when the rotational torque is generated by the first rotating electrical machine.
