abstract [PROBLEMS] To use a diazotization reaction with nitrite ions to quantitate the total nitrogen of test water to a high concentration region by a simple operation. A method for quantifying total nitrogen in test water includes a step 1 for converting a nitrogen compound contained in test water into nitrate ions by oxidative decomposition, and further reducing and converting the nitrate compounds into nitrite ions. Step 2 in which a diazotizing reagent capable of producing a diazonium salt by reaction with nitrite ions is added to the test water that has passed, and the reaction is conducted under acidic conditions, and the absorbance of the test water that has passed Step 2 is colored by the diazotizing reagent Or step 3 of measuring the concentration of nitrite ions by measuring the absorbance of coloring by the produced diazonium salt.
