abstract The present invention provides a novel means for identifying a new gene involved in the production of kojic acid and improving the productivity of kojic acid of microorganisms such as koji molds. The method for improving the productivity of kojic acid according to the present invention comprises a microorganism having an ability to produce kojic acid, such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Penicillium, from Hst4 gene, Hos2 gene and Spt3 gene, and proteins encoded by these.
