abstract |
Disclosed is a liquid crystal display element capable of easily improving response characteristics without using a large-scale manufacturing apparatus, and further reducing the voltage applied when pretilt is applied to liquid crystal molecules. Provided is a liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device is provided between a pair of alignment films 22 and 32 provided on opposite sides of a pair of substrates 20 and 30 and between the pair of alignment films 22 and 32, and has a negative dielectric constant. A liquid crystal display element having a liquid crystal layer 40 including liquid crystal molecules 41 having anisotropy is provided, and at least one of the pair of alignment films 22 and 32 is crosslinked by a polymer compound having a crosslinkable functional group as a side chain. The liquid crystal layer includes a deformed compound, the liquid crystal layer further includes a molecule having a ring structure and a spacer connecting the ring structure, and the liquid crystal molecule is given a pretilt by the bridged or deformed compound.
