abstract | A quick connect prosthetic heart valve that can be quickly and easily implanted during a surgical procedure is provided. The heart valve includes a substantially non-expandable, incompressible prosthetic valve and a plastic expandable articulating stent, thereby allowing attachment to the annulus without the use of sutures. A small number of guide sutures may be provided for aortic valve orientation. The prosthetic valve may be a commercially available valve having a sewing ring to which a connecting stent is attached. The connecting stent may expand from a conical deployed configuration to a conical expanded configuration and may include cobweb-like struts connected between axially expanding columns. The system and method for deployment includes a hollow two-part handle through which a balloon catheter passes. The valve holder is retracted with the heart valve and the handle easily attaches to it to improve the valve preparation step. |
