The catalyst includes at least a metal component and at least a non-metallic conductive component as an auxiliary component. The metal component generally contains one or more metals from groups VIb, VIIb or VIIIb of the periodic table. The auxiliary component is, for example, a conductive carbon material such as graphite, a conductive polymer, or a conductive metal oxide. Preferably it is hydrophobic or rendered hydrophobic. The catalyst is used to hydrotreat biofeeds such as vegetable oils to produce fuels that are aliphatic hydrocarbons comparable to conventional fuels from mineral oil. |
