titleOfInvention Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI)
abstract Statistical analysis techniques based on auto and cross-correlation / cumulants are used for image stacks of fluctuating objects to improve resolution beyond the classical diffraction limit and reduce background. The temporal trajectory of every pixel in an image frame is correlated with the temporal trajectory of itself and / or adjacent pixels. The amplitude of each pixel's auto or cross-correlation / cumulant at any time difference or averaged or integrated time difference for the time difference interval is used as the intensity value of that pixel in the generated super-resolution light fluctuation image.
