Method for correcting a cross section during deployment of an elongated lung volume reduction device |
abstract |
Elongated implant structures are often introduced into the airway system to the axial region of the target airway and provide lateral bending and / or compression forces from within the airway to the lung tissue for an extended period of time. The structure or features of the implant can prevent tissue recoil that may allow the device portion to eventually traverse the airway wall. The device can increase the lateral bearing area in the tissue of the lumen wall of the surrounding airway. Embodiments may have features that increase the frictional force of the device with the airway to allow the device to grip the airway that it encloses when the device is deployed. A suitable adhesive can be introduced around the device in the lung. The hydrophilic material can prevent the formation of biofilms, or features that induce some tissue ingrowth (stimulation of tissue growth) can improve the support of the implanted device. Can do. |
