The present invention relates generally to the fields of food allergies and nutrition. It has been found that stimulation of opioid receptors can be used for the treatment or prevention of food allergies. Accordingly, one embodiment of the present invention is a thymoquinone or plant extract derived from Nigella sativa, Eupatium ayapana, Satsureya montana, or Timus for the preparation of a composition for treating or preventing food allergies.
