abstract | Described herein is a method for reducing the amount of mercury in a flue gas containing mercury through the use of molecular halogen. Also described are chemical processes for performing the methods and systems for performing the chemical processes. Described herein is a method for reducing mercury emissions from flue gases. In general, the method comprises providing a relatively inert halide salt, converting the halide salt to an acid halide, and converting the acid halide to a molecular halogen.
