abstract | Described herein are processes and systems for producing linear alpha olefins. One embodiment is a process comprising the following steps: (a) A mixed butene stream comprising 1-butene and 2-butene is converted into a 1-butene stream at the top and a 2-butene at the bottom in a butene distillation column. And separating a portion of the bottom 2-butene stream to form a butene reboiler stream, which is heated and evaporated in the reboiler to produce the butene distillation column. (B) subjecting at least a portion of the top 1-butene stream from (a) to catalytic metathesis to produce an effluent containing 3-hexene, (c) 3 from (b) Isomerizing hexene to produce a mixed hexene stream comprising 1-hexene, 2-hexene and 3-hexene, (d) the mixed hexene stream in a hexene rectification column Separating to form a top stream of 1-hexene vapor (which is condensed in a condenser) and a bottom stream comprising 2-hexene and 3-hexene; and (e) 1- Heating the butene reboiler stream of (a) using heat obtained by condensing the overhead stream of hexene vapor. Another embodiment is a super rectification process. A corresponding system is also disclosed. |
