titleOfInvention MR coil attenuation correction in hybrid PET / MR system
abstract Attenuation-corrected AC map template for MR coil 72 in which nuclear image data generated by a multimodal imaging device, such as a combined positron emission tomography PET / magnetic resonance MR scanner 12, 14, is present in both the nuclear and MR scanning procedures. 70 and attenuation correction using the combined patient-specific AC map. Template library 46 includes templates for each of a plurality of MR coils and other accessories. Each template is generated in one of two ways. The coil can be imaged inside a PET scanner 14 with a transmission source 16 such as Ge-68 or Cs-137, for example. The transmission image 48 can be reconstructed using known algorithms and used directly as an AC template. Alternatively, the template can be generated by creating a global histogram of the transmission image and identifying segments of coils or other accessories. An average linear attenuation coefficient LAC value is determined from the histogram distribution. A coil or other accessory is imaged using a high resolution CT scan, and the CT image is segmented and assigned a calculated LAC value determined from the histogram distribution to create an AC map template for the coil. .
