abstract | Known methods for synthesizing N-alkylated morphinans have two main problems: (a) dependence on transition metal catalysts and (b) the use of hydrogen gas as a source of hydrogen for alkylation. There is at least one problem. The present invention provides a process for N-alkylation of normorphinan compounds to produce N-alkylated morphinan compounds. In particular, the process relates to the alkylation of normorphinan compounds with carboxaldehyde in the presence of a reducing agent aimed at forming N-alkylated morphinans. |
