titleOfInvention | Recurrent gene fusions in prostate cancer |
abstract | A recurrent gene fusion of an androgen regulatory gene or housekeeping gene with an ETS family member gene in prostate cancer is described. Also provided are compositions and methods that have utility in the diagnosis, research and therapy of prostate cancer. In one aspect, the invention provides a method for identifying prostate cancer in a patient, the method comprising providing a sample from the patient, and a 5 ′ portion from the transcriptional regulatory region of the SLC45A3 gene in the sample. And detecting the presence or absence of a gene fusion having a 3 ′ portion from the ERG gene, and identifying prostate cancer in the patient by detecting the presence of the gene fusion in the sample. |
