abstract Disclosed is a catalyst composition comprising about 35% to about 75% Cu, about 15% to about 35% Al, and about 5% to about 20% Mn. The catalyst composition is Cu (NO3) 2, Mn ( NO 3) 2 and Na 2 Al 2 O 3 extruded powder formed from precipitation reactions of bulk homogeneous composition formed by firing. The catalyst composition has one or more crystalline phases having an empirical formula selected from one or more of CuO and Cu x Mn (3-x) O 4 , where x is from about 1 to about 1.5. . The catalyst composition is useful for the conversion of 1,4-butanediol to γ-butyrolactone by a dehydrogenation reaction. [Selection] Figure 1
