abstract |
An enveloped virus-based virus-like particle (VLP) is described that is free of infectious agents and is substantially as immunogenic as the corresponding VLP prior to inactivating the infectious agent. An improved method for inactivating infectious agents in enveloped virus-based VLP preparations that does not deleteriously affect the immunogenicity of VLPs is also described. The method comprises the steps of: (a) isolating an enveloped virus-based virus-like particle preparation from a host cell or a component of the host cell used to make the enveloped virus-based virus-like particle preparation; b) applying to the preparation a dose of electromagnetic radiation sufficient to inactivate substantially all infectious agents in the enveloped virus-based virus-like particle preparation. |
