abstract A method of preparing an acylated secondary alcohol alkoxylate, the method comprising: (i) one or more internals in the presence of a catalyst composition to form one or more carboxylic esters. Reaction of an olefin with one or more carboxylic acids; (ii) in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a catalyst composition to form one or more acylated secondary alcohol alkoxylates; Reaction of one or more carboxylic acid esters from step (i) with one or more alkylene oxide reactants, the catalyst composition comprising: (a) one of a carboxylic acid and / or a hydroxycarboxylic acid (B) oxyacids selected from sulfuric acid and orthophosphoric acid; (c) alcohols and / or esters; and / or Or (iii) a reaction comprising the interaction product of (a), (b) and / or (c); and optionally (iii) forming one or more secondary alcohol alkoxylates (ii) A method comprising hydrolysis or transesterification of one or more acylated secondary alcohol alkoxylates from and a step of preparing a secondary alcohol alkoxylate by the method described above; and sulfating the secondary alcohol alkoxylate A process for producing a secondary alcohol alkoxysulfate comprising a step.
