The present application relates to cells that encode and secrete GLP-1, fragments or variants thereof, or fusion peptides comprising GLP-1, fragments or variants thereof, eg, mesenchymal stem cells or mesenchymal stromal cells Alternatively, it relates to the use of any further suitable cells for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI or MI).
