titleOfInvention Flexible surgical disposable port
abstract A surgical instrument is provided for introducing a laparoscopic instrument through the tissue at the entry site and into the anatomical cavity. The instrument includes a body with a frustoconical wall. The body defines an internal cavity, an open lower portion, and a generally closed upper wall with holes, with a plurality of ports extending upwardly from the holes. The port is suitable for receiving a laparoscopic instrument for introducing the laparoscopic instrument through the internal cavity and open bottom of the body. In a preferred embodiment, the frustoconical wall of the body is placed through an incision in the umbilicus. In one aspect of the invention, the body is a single unitary structure. A reinforcing belt or plate formed from a relatively hard material can be integrated into the body and a separately formed port cap, each having a septum, that can be secured to the port.
