abstract |
An alkaline storage battery having an electrode-containing metal ratio capable of promoting further optimization of battery characteristics as an alkaline storage battery, and a method for producing the alkaline storage battery. An alkaline storage battery includes a positive electrode including nickel hydroxide particles coated with a cobalt compound coating layer and a negative electrode including a hydrogen storage alloy containing nickel. In the alkaline storage battery, metallic cobalt or a cobalt compound is added to the positive electrode, the hydrogen storage alloy of the negative electrode contains cobalt, and the cobalt contained in the metallic cobalt or cobalt compound added to the positive electrode. When the mass occupied by the positive electrode is X, the mass of cobalt contained in the negative electrode in the hydrogen storage alloy of the negative electrode is Y, the capacity of the positive electrode is V, and the capacity of the negative electrode is W, “(X / Y ) × (W / V) ”is“ 1.1 ”or more and“ 1.91 ”or less.
