An optically anisotropic film having sufficient alignment ability for a liquid crystalline compound, mechanical strength and heat resistance, and obtained by aligning a liquid crystalline compound, particularly a polymerizable liquid crystal polymerized in an aligned state Novel high molecular compound capable of forming an alignment film excellent in adhesion to an optically anisotropic film containing a polymer of a functional compound, an alignment film composition containing the same, and obtained using the same An alignment film, an optical element, and an optical head device are provided. A polymer compound comprising a polymer unit based on a fumaric acid diester and a polymer unit having a radically polymerizable group in a side chain is provided.
