Non-tumorigenic proliferation of pluripotent stem cells |
abstract |
There is a need for new methods for culturing hES cells using other feeder cell sources that do not cause contamination and formation of teratomas. The present invention provides a method for growing human embryonic stem (hES) cells in a medium containing human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSCs) as a feeder. The human embryonic stem (hES) cells maintain the characteristics of embryonic stem cells in the medium, such as pluripotency, infinite growth in an undifferentiated state, and normal karyotype. The invention further provides methods for non-tumorigenic growth of human embryonic stem (hES) cells that do not form teratomas. [Selection figure] None |
