abstract An object of the present invention is to make it possible to quantify the amount of a substance to be inspected with higher accuracy compared to a method in which a light source and a light receiving element are arranged on the same surface side of an analysis chip. An analysis chip for analyzing a specimen sample containing a biological material is irradiated from a light source with detection light for detecting a detection substance generated on the analysis chip by a reaction between the analysis chip and the biological material. On the other hand, the diffusely reflected light from the analysis chip is detected by the first optical detector 51 disposed on the same side as the light source, and the second optical detector 61 disposed on the opposite side of the light source from the analysis chip. An object to be inspected in a biological material is detected using both diffuse reflected light detected by the first optical detector and diffuse transmitted light detected by the second optical detector by detecting the diffuse transmitted light from the analysis chip.
