A method for producing a B—C—N—O phosphor having a high fluorescence quantum yield is provided. The method includes an oxidation firing step of firing a nitrogen-containing boron compound in an oxidizing atmosphere, and a molar ratio of boron to nitrogen constituting the nitrogen-containing boron compound is 0.05: 1 to 0.5: 1.
