abstract Provided is a viscous aqueous composition that is excellent in use feeling and can achieve high viscosity even if the amount of thickener used is suppressed. A viscous aqueous composition containing the following components (A) to (C) is provided. (A) Cellulose fibers having a maximum fiber diameter of 1000 nm or less and a number average fiber diameter of 2 to 150 nm, wherein the cellulose has a cellulose I-type crystal structure and has C6 position of each glucose unit in the cellulose molecule. Cellulose fibers in which hydroxyl groups are selectively oxidized and modified to carboxyl groups, whereby the carboxyl groups are in a ratio of 0.6 to 2.0 mmol / g. (B) At least one thickening accelerator selected from the group consisting of nonionic thickening polysaccharides, acrylic polymers, and cellulose derivatives having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 120,000 or more.
